In April 2020, the Citra Team announced compatibility with New Nintendo 3DS games and support for save states, and in May 2020, they announced a version of Citra for Android. Additionally, Citra allows the networking to be compatible with other users anywhere. The networking support emulates the 3DS's local Wi-Fi, which originally made it possible to play over local networks. In November 2017, Citra announced networking support for the emulator. As of build 1903, the games PokГ©mon Sun and Moon are fully playable being considered a milestone in emulator development to some enthusiasts. Citra can emulate audio since May 21, 2016, and has had a JIT compiler since September 15, 2016. Since February 22, 2016, the official website of Citra was updated with a new design. Citra can also run some other games, such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Sonic Generations.Д¬itra can emulate PokГ©mon games since December 30, 2015. The first commercial Nintendo 3DS game to be run by Citra was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Д¬itra was initially created in April 2014. The same team is also developing a Nintendo Switch emulator, named yuzu. The majority of the development happens on GitHub, and more than 215 developers have contributed to Citra's repository on GitHub.

Д¬itra is free and open-source and is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Citra does not work well with older PCs and needs to be run on a decently powerful ењ†4 or ARM64 CPU. Citra's name is derived from CTR, which is the model name of the original 3DS.

Citra requires OpenGL version 3.3 or later to run. Citra can run almost all homebrew games and many commercial games. Single Core Performance > 1,800 on PassmarkД¬itra is an emulator of the handheld game console Nintendo 3DS, developed by Citra and contributors.
